Student Leaders Receive Awards

Ms. Club Amish Quilt Raffle

The Kirtland Ms Club will be holding a drawing on December 6, 2014 for this beautiful, homemade, Trip Around the World, queen size, amish quilt.  This raffle will help raise funds for the Ms Club, which provides no-interest emergency loans to currently enrolled students.  They operate under the Foundation; in order to donate using your credit card please go to: kirtlandfoundation.org and Donate Now to the Ms. Club. Ruth Retires from Foundation Board

Ruth Ferguson has an energy and a laugh that you just don’t forget.  The Foundation was lucky to have her as a board member since 2002; a full 12 years of service to Kirtland! Back in the day, Ruth started out as a Kirtland student and eventually went on to Saginaw Valley State University to finish up her teaching degree.  She always felt a strong connection to Kirtland and when Pat McGinnis asked her to join the foundation board, she had no hesitation.  At that time she was teaching 3rd grade at Surline Elementary School in West Branch and wanted to do her part in helping the community.  Ruth went on to teach for 22 years after having her 5 children. 9 Top Notch Students Awarded Winter Scholarships

Jail Employee Campaign 2013: Success!

The Foundation kicked off their 2013 Employee Campaign on November 20th.  A jail cell (kindly donated from the Houghton Lake Chamber) was set up in the Student Center that held President Dr. Quinn, CFO Jason Broge, Dean of Instruction Julie Lavender, Instructor Chuck Hinman and Resource Development Manager Lynne Ruden.  Each prisoner was able to reach their $500 goal and then some by soliciting donations from employees and the community! The total giving from Kirtland employees:  $4,750 (and an additional $962 from the community!) Foundation Grants Awarded to Great Projects

The Foundation is excited to announce that in November 2013 we proudly gave $16,750 in grants to support Kirtland College and its communities.  Below are the initiatives that the Foundation will help support in the upcoming year… Kirtland Library & Math Department 5 new graphing calculators for the Math Department.  $450 Kirtland's Transitional Studies & Math Department National Association of Developmental Educators Conference.  $700 Kirtland Service Learning Break Away's Alternative Break's Citizenship.  $600 Kirtland Public Safety Kirtland Shooting Range improvements.  $1,500 Kirtland Health Sciences  Sterile IV Compounding training.  $3,000 Kirtland Facilities & Wellness Committee KCC community garden. … [Read more...]

Kirtland’s Annual Retiree Luncheon

September 4, 2013 was a great day to hold the Annual Retirees Luncheon.  The light sprinkles didn't stop some of Kirtland's finest retirees from joining the picnic lunch under the tent.  The luncheon is always the perfect time for past employees to catch up with each other, many only see their fellow retirees once a year on this day.  The guests enjoyed a great meal and headed to the library to browse through some pictures from the past and helped to identify many faces for the endless photo albums.  See you all next year, same place... same time!   … [Read more...]
