Foundation’s Softball Fundraiser a Success

The Foundation hosted an exciting co-ed softball tournament August 30th- 31st.  The games took place at the Rose City and Lupton fields and the weather was perfect for ball.  8 teams competed over a day and a half for the title of "Champion" and Sullivan's Exteriors came out on top without a loss.  The concessions stand was hoppin' and combined with the entrance fee and home run derby fee, the Foundation was able to bring in $1500 that will go towards General Scholarships for Kirtland students. Grayling FOP start a new Foundation Scholarship

FOP AuSable Lodge #189 Scholarship

Grayling's Fraternal Order of Police recently presented the Kirtland Foundation with a $500 check to help continue the education of a promising 2nd year criminal justice student.  Officer Tim Coe recently said "the donation was prompted by a simple excess of funds and a sense of responsibility to the community.  The scholarship is an excellent demonstration of the 'people helping people' mantra that has always guided the Fraternal Order of Police in Grayling and across the country." Foundation’s Spring 2013 Grant Recipients

The Foundation is excited to announce that in May we proudly gave $16,000 in grants to support Kirtland College.  Below are the initiatives that the Foundation will help support in the upcoming year… Kirtland’s Early Childhood Learning Center to assist a student with their childcare costs, making it easier for them to attend class. Service Learning for a “Break Away’s Alternative Breaks Citizenship” initiative to help develop leaders to bring back to Kirtland’s campus. The Kirtland Youth Theatre to continue to bring art and culture to the youth of Kirtland’s service district and beyond.   The youngsters respond greatly to the Youth Theatre program and especially to the live performances. Last week when we still had snow on the ground Lynne Ruden, Development Manager for the Kirtland Foundation put out the invite to women in Kirtland's Community to join her on Saturday April 27th for Grayling's Ladies Night Out, including local hearty fare before partaking in some "shopping therapy." The women met at the Mainstream Steak and Ribs Restaurant for some local hearty fare, many meeting new friendly faces for the first time. One of the new friendly faces was Valda L. Byrd MD, Pediatrics Grayling Mercy Hospital who kept everyone in stitches with her hilarious sense of humor depicting her upcoming plans for a trip to Chicago with her daughter.
