Back in the day, Ruth started out as a Kirtland student and eventually went on to Saginaw Valley State University to finish up her teaching degree. She always felt a strong connection to Kirtland and when Pat McGinnis asked her to join the foundation board, she had no hesitation. At that time she was teaching 3rd grade at Surline Elementary School in West Branch and wanted to do her part in helping the community. Ruth went on to teach for 22 years after having her 5 children.
In Ruth’s 12 years on the board her biggest passion fell with the Scholarship Committee. As a student, she never received any financial aid so she felt a strong sense of gratification, being a part of a process that would enhance students’ lives. She loved hearing their stories.
Ruth plans to stay in touch with the happenings around Kirtland but will spend most of her free time with her family (who are encouraging her to write a biography about her life!)
Thanks for your time and service Ruth, you will be missed!
